Basic Floor Construction
We typically recommend using 2 layers of 1/2" BCX plywood to construct the floor or tumbling strip. Other options for floor construction are available which may better meet your needs; these options will be discussed when the details for your floor or tumbling strip are finalized.A 6' wide tumbling strip requires 28 springs per 4' x 6' panel plus an additional 14 springs to form a double row of springs at each end of the strip.
An 8' wide tumbling strip requires 36 springs per 4' x 8' panel plus an additional 18 springs to form a double row of springs at each end of the strip.
A standard spring floor requires 32 springs per 4' x 8' panel plus enough springs to provide a double row around the perimeter of the floor.
Springs are attached to the bottom/base layer of plywood using the T-Nut, machine screw, and I/E lock washer included in each spring kit. Once the bottom panels are assembled and in final position, the top layer of plywood is layed down so that each joint in the base layer is overlapped. Finally, the top layer is fastened to the bottom layer using drywall screws.
